Aluminum foils are a standard in most kitchens around the world. These thin sheets of metal can be used for a variety of things ranging from cooking to storing and even transporting food. Only a handful of people know that aluminum foil can be used effectively to store food in the freezer. This article aims to throw more light on this lesser known use of aluminum foils.
For starters, one should use only heavy duty aluminum foils because they can withstand the frigid temperatures of a freezer. Any other type of foil tends to break easily under such low temperatures. In order to increase the shelf life of the product it is recommended that you unwrap any existing cover before you wrap it with the foil.
Foils are most efficient in storing dry and other food items that have low moisture levels. Foods that have a high liquid content should be stored in proper containers. Since aluminum foils are metallic there are chances of it reacting with acidic food causing the latter to taste metallic or bitter. The foil can cause the food to change color and itself may wear away over time.
